Q.             Can my child play in an older league even if his/her birthday does not meet the cutoff?
A.              There are some exceptions made in the Fall season regarding age, experience and whether age groups are combined or not. In the Spring season, all players must play in their age group.

Q.             Why does HYA use the May 1st cutoff date for age groups versus the school cut-off date?
A.              The school cut-off dates are different for public and private schools.  HYA made the decision to follow the guidelines established by the youth leagues for which we are affiliated (Dizzy Dean and USSSA).

Q.             We have registered and played with HYA before but I have forgotten my login credentials.  Should I just create a new account?
A.              No, creating duplicate accounts will result in you receiving duplicate emails from HYA and the information on your child from previous seasons will not show up on your account.  If you have forgotten your password, you can just enter your email address at login and press submit (with the password field left blank).  You password will then be emailed to you.  If you do not remember the email address of your account, please email and your login credentials will be sent to you.

Q.             We are new to Hopewell and would like to know about how the league is run (i.e. number of practices, games, etc.)
A.              One of the primary philosophies of HYA is to teach the fundamentals of baseball.  Our recreational seasons generally start with 2 practices per week for the first month.  The second month will involve one practice and one game per week.  The final month will involve two games per week and the season will culminate with an in-park tournament.
For the age groups 8u and below we utilize coach pitching and for the 9u and above it is strictly kid pitch.  For the 5u age groups we utilize a combination of coach pitch and hitting off the tee.
We highly recommend looking through the HYA Rule Book prior to the start of the season of if you are interested in the rules for different age groups.

Q.             When will we know what team we are on and when we will be practicing?
A.              Within a few days of the completion of assessments, players are drafted onto teams.  After the draft, your coach will call you to introduce himself/herself to you and your child.  Your coach will inform you of your team name and what day of the week you will be practicing.  If you have not heard from your coach within 3 days of the draft for your age group, please contact .

Q.             My child and his best friend are playing in the same league.  Can I request that they play on the same team?
A.              With over 600 kids in our recreational leagues, we cannot entertain request for kids to play together.   If you would like to coach then you have the ability to select your players so we would recommend that route if you want to select who is on your child’s team.

Q.             If I have siblings in the same age group can they be on the same team?
A.              Yes, due to the logistics of practice and game schedules the HYA policy has always been for siblings to be allowed to play on the same team.

Q.             There are certain days where we would not be able to practice.  How are these situations handled?
A.              Each coach is given a specific practice day based on when they are available.  You will be informed of the practice day when your coach calls/emails.  If you are unable to practice on that day you should inform your coach at that time.  The league coordinator will work with the coach to attempt to find a solution.

Q.             What are the assessments?
A.              Prior to the start of each season we will have an assessment day.  At this time you will be fitted for a uniform and your child will do some basic drills (hitting, catching, running, fielding) to give the coaches an approximation of their skill level.  The assessments are utilized by the coaches when drafting players to ensure that all teams are similar in skill levels.

Q.             We have signed up to play at Hopewell and now have to cancel.  How do we do this?
A.              Send an email to  and request that your registration be cancelled.  If the cancellation is on or before the assessment day you will receive 100% of your registration fee minus a $15 processing fee.  If after assessment, but before uniforms are ordered you will receive 50% of your registration fee minus a $15 processing fee.  After uniforms have been ordered you will not receive any refund. NO refunds will be given to players who try our for the Select team and do not make it. These players are expected to play in the recreation league if they do not make the Select team.

Q.             We do not live in the City of Milton.  Why do we have to pay so much for non-resident fees?
A.              The non-resident fees are established by the City of Milton and are comparable to what other cities charge non-resident participants. 100% of the non-resident fee goes directly to the City of Milton.  If you DO NOT pay taxes to the City of Milton, then you are considered a non-resident

Q.             We are not able to make the assessment/uniform fitting date.  What do we need to do?
A.              If you cannot make the assessment date, you child will be drafted based upon previous experience at HYA or be a "hat pick" if he/she has not played at HYA before.  HOWEVER, you will still need be fitted for a uniform.  A make-up uniform fitting date will be scheduled and communicated prior to the original assessment date and be published on the HYA homepage.
